Escape a Wildcard in Excel

Excel accepts the tilde ~ and asterisk * as wildcards. But how do you escape one of these wildcard characters? You put a tilde ~ in front of the character to escape.

In the example below, the SEARCH function will look for all asterisks * in the L2 cell:

    =ISNUMBER(SEARCH("~*", L2))
